Stream: Lavender Diamond, ‘Oh My Beautiful World’

Has it been a full year since we dashed over to Eagle Rock to hear Becky Stark and Lavender Diamond perform a batch of new songs? Indeed, that was May of last year, and finally the L.A. quartet has announced a new album, “Incorruptible Heart” (due Sept. 25). It was spring of 2007 when Lavender Diamond – featuring Stark’s songbird vocals backed by an ace crew of  Jeffrey Rosenberg (guitar), Steve Gregoropolous (keyboards) and Ron Regé Jr. (drums) – released its debut “Imagine Our Love.” Since then, Stark has joined Inara George and Eleni Mandell as the Living Sisters, made a single with actor John C. Reilly and performed with the Decemberists, She & Him and the L.A. Ladies Choir (not to mention dabbling in jazz covers at a downtown club). The new album was made with OK Go’s Damian Kulash and Dave Fridmann (Mercury Rev, the Flaming Lips), and the teaser track, the celebratory “Oh My Beautiful World,” is one of those value-added folk songs – Stark’s pristine confessional interrupted by a couple of freaky excursions. Rather levitating.
